Today, I wanted to speak about something I suffered for years and that many human beings also suffer without even knowing about it. If you often have stomachaches, you might want to try this!
I was having stomachaches for years and it was just getting worse every year. I went to see a gastroenterologist who didn’t know what I had or what to do, so I was just getting médecine witch was making things worse. I got tested for stomach bacteria and gluten, which came back negative. Later that year, I got lactose tested and it came 100% positive. I got lactose intolerant for over 3 years, I became gluten intolerant for 6 months and both these intolerances went away. Lactose intolerance irritated my intestines so much that I got IBS. I am feeling better now, but I want to help people who are in the same case.
IBS stands for “irritable bowel Syndrome”. It is a chronic condition of the large intestine that often occurs in pair with a bigger intolerance, such as lactose, fructose or gluten. Concrètement, it is when people have unexplained stomachaches, cramps and bloating, after eating random food, such as apple, mangos or even cauliflower.
To relieve IBS, scientists have found a good diet: deleting complex food that cannot be fully digested by the big intestine. It concerns mostly food that contains lactose, fructose, sorbitol, mannitol, fructooligosaccharides, and galactooligosaccharides. The diet is named fodmap, for « Fermentable Oligo-, Di-, Mono-saccharose And Polyols ». This diet is still experimental since high and low fodmap food are still changing, depending on the symptoms. Everybody is different and will not react the same way, this is why it is important if you think you are suffering from IBS to try various food and listen to your body. For example, my body cannot digest “polyols” at all and I should avoid that, but I am completely fine with fructose.
To put it in a nutshell, if you are having a constant stomachache, you should definitely go see your doctor, but as this diet is not that well-known yet, you might want to try this. It is not an easy one, but the method is to remove such food from your diet for 2-3 weeks before reintegrating them gradually and listen to your body.
